Unrelenting Presence

Composed 10/31/14
Description: Why is the weather always TERRIBLE on Halloween? As I fought my way through icy winds, sleet, and snow this evening I asked myself this question many times. Here is my best guess as to why this is likely the case.

The spirits of dead
And those who guard them in the ground
Arise from their lands and fly
Blocking out the sun
And all warmth from this world

So tangible are their haunted souls
The chill they bring fills the air
Manifesting in such icy winds
That sleet falls from the darkness high
And brings chill to body as well as mind

Description: While looking for inspiration I StumbledUpon the above photo. I had also recently come by a tumblr post that had a list of “beautiful words” one might try to integrate into writing. Well, what would be a more perfect phenomenon to describe with beautiful words than northern lights? So I used several of those words here (along with some words I just think are pretty).

Crystalline stars in countless mass
Painted onto the purest midnight blue
Encompass and shade the still and serene
Stage dancing waves of sea foam green
Ever twisting in lazy aesthetic joy

Nebulous violets join in spherical dance
Lithe pinks enchanting with their resplendent beams
Then blues like blurred, murmured mist
Ease in, wane out in casual abundance
A lullaby for passersby

And in the languid luminescence
Even our black silhouettes
Radiate splendor here

What Comes in the Haze of Night

Composed 10/25/14
Description: I admit I feel silly posting something so incredibly sappy, but I’ve not written in so long… and this is what came to me as I was drifting to sleep, so this is what you get. But it’s really about just trying to make someone happy, so it’s not too sappy?

My dreams are of your gray eyes closed
Fingertips dusting a pale spotted cheek
Then tracing down, across sharp bones
At a moment when I’m feeling weak

And slowly then they’ll find your hair
Twisting down like silken lace
As I slowly, shyly dare
To press my lips to a guarded face

But it is not for the taste of your skin I wish
Just the subtle pleased twist of a smile on your lips

Description: Sorry for the hiatus. Life and lack of motivation has been keeping me away. This one’s been sitting on the backburner for awhile. Just inspired to finish it today.

Do you hear it?
The static of words unsaid?
Do you feel it?
Or is it just in my head?

This electricity building the longer, the later
We’re alone in evening rooms
When goodbyes hang on hunched up shoulders
Heart heaving, inevitable doom

The back to front uncertainty
Of uninvited touch
Of softened words and sorrowed wishes
That’d leave me sore and stuck

Do you wonder?
Of my sure, concise reply?
If you worry
My actions tell you lies

For know the current building up
Is not one soon to explode
But a newly fashioned force field
To probe uncharted roads

And I know it hurts — the laughs, the bonds
That seem like lovers’ games
I admit it’s nice to be for once
An admired, sought-for dame

Do you fret?
That I do not care?
For truly
You’re a friend beyond compare

For even though the static felt
Doesn’t burn in heated paths
I value every word you’ve spoke
And every breathless laugh

Yes truly you have earned a place
Of high fondness and esteem
And the warmth of friendship’s energy
Is richer than it seems
