A Summer Love Song

Composed 6/23/16
Description: For the romantics. For me. Inspired by an awesome summer night.

I long to write a song for you
Some silhouette out in the mist
I can feel your hand and see your smile
Sense my stomach turn and twist
I know your touch deep in my mind
Comfort, sweetness, teasing grins
Conversations in the night
Simple longings to be with
Yet I’ve never met you
I live inside a shadow of love
Could hollowness consume me?
Could desperation trap me in?
I walk out into darkness

But find not emptiness

A dew drenched woods filled with life
A thousand flickering fireflies
Send my senses sparking
My skin strangely alive
Adventure calls me with the sound
Of howling beasts and hooting owls
I walk within the universe
Black with stars I touch and search
Some days I may long for you
But some days now I feel disgust
For what can possibly compare
To a cool night and firefly fairy dust?

Inside

Composed 6/22/16
Description: Inspired by today’s Daily Prompt: Empty. And if this doesn’t fill you up, another empty-themed poem can be found here.

His smile drew
Each passerby
The twinkling in his eyes
Suggested magic and mystery
Well dressed, well kept
Politeness dripped from his outstretched hands
He was a perfect trap
Until you got inside
Then you realized he’s
Empty

In Memoriam

Composed 6/13/16
Descriptions: For the Victims of Orlando.

How can there be a sunset
When there is such a pit in my heart?
You nailed it into me
And it festers and grows
Fifty ghost bullets
Fifty real holes in me
They leak endless tears
And I have a brackish taste
Of how God feels when we hurt one another
So the sun goes away
And God sends us fifty thousand stars
And aurora to mourn

Little Bird

Composed 6/8/16
Description: n/a

Hello, little bird
I can see the sadness in your eyes
How I yearn to pick you up and hold you
In my hands and
Keep you away from the fox that thinks
He’s a friend
But I can only keep an eye
Peeked over at your nest
Whisper from afar
And rush with open palms
When you fall

Empathy

Composed 6/7/16
Description: It’s a bitch.

Sometimes I pride on a heart make of ice
But there’s no such thing
Tragedy pierces and
Anger melts it
Sadness seizes and squeezes until tears leak
Out between clenched fingers
Happiness radiates and thaws
Hearts throb but it must freeze again
Because ice crystals keep the scoundrels at bay
But it inevitably melts away
And it always burns

Bored to Death

Composed 6/6/16
Description: Sorry for the hiatus. Summer is not a relaxing time for me, but rather a time to jump into a lengthy practicum (alongside work and social responsibilities of course). Speaking of educational matters, here’s a little something inspired by my adventures today.

Flood my veins with words of wisdom
Hammer secrets to my bones
Let the knowledge seep into my brain
But I already know
