Description: As a soon-to-be-graduated graduate student, I spend a lot of time thinking about the future. It’s easy to get lost in the hum-drum of thinking about jobs and apartments and money. But no matter what the future holds as far as all that goes, this is the best case scenario. For today’s Daily Prompt: Someday.
Sinking into warm cushions and
Opening my arms to you
Melting into the mindless hum of
Entertainment droning on and on as I
Distance myself from the day and
Admire the warmth of your skin and smile
Yearning for nothing
Description: I have thrown about many ideas for what I want to strive for this year to better improve myself. Some of these ideas are not very original but, I feel, necessary (i.e. eat better, exercise more, lose some pudge), while other goals are things to satisfy my more creative, artistic needs (i.e. experiment with bullet journaling). While some of these things may come true, I am perhaps the queen of halfhearted goals. However, a rare exception to that rule is this blog. While hiatuses are apparent, I have had this blog and kept it updated to some degree for over two years now. Thus, it seems appropriate to try and build on success, take another baby step, if you will. Do you think I can consistently post a poem a week for the whole year?
Inspired by life and today’s Daily Prompt: Year.
Swiftly fills with varied aspirations that
Overflow and overwhelm as we
Long to start afresh and better ourselves with
Varied results depending upon
Endurance and earnestness
Description: Horribly, horribly behind for Writing 101, but I’m pressing on! Day 3’s theme was “Friend,” it’s (suggested) form an acrostic. Instead of writing about one particular friend I was more moved to write about, well, all of them. Hope this makes you smile; I did!
Let’s be the ones that gather together
Organized or last minute trips
Various peoples thrown into vehicles
Everyone quirky and laughing in fits
For we come from different places
Only history as commonality
Rambunctiously we interact bringing stares
As people wonder how we got where we are
Life brought us together, simply, and
Love and liking will keep us that way
Description: An acrostic.
Obsessed I let you consume my thoughts
Be my everything especially at night I
Just let myself fall into thinking about
Exactly how wonderful you could be you’re all
Consuming so much I fear that when I
Touch you I’ll feel empty
Description: For Writing 201, Day 3, which asked us to compose a poem with the theme of trust, in a form that utilizes an acrostic and internal rhyme.
These themes seem to strike me on perfect days. Today I spent a fun day with my best friend, with whom I share the most enviable of friendships, I think. So I wrote about our friendship, largely drawing inspiration from the rhyming of “sister” and “whisper,” which I thought of quickly once I decided to write about her. The acrostic was harder, since I had a good poem before adding it, but I did end up using the now-beloved though recently discovered reverse-acrostic (in which the acrostic is at the end). After all, what does friendship all boil down to at the end?
Sister, our whispers shout
Encryptions in levels ever deeper
Secret novels of joy, what pains me and you
And with an eye, with smiles
We know to never speak out
