The Honest Time

As twilight slips ever closer each passing day
I rest in its familiar, intimate embrace
When feet and minds halt their rushing
And eyes relax in darkness as opposed to oscillating light
Ears are soothed by natural lullabies
Anxieties put to bed for the night
At crepuscule time it is time to just be
Yourself, one, with nature and peace
No other being to entertain or impress
Just the honest time of being and rest

A Writer’s Prayer

Composed 1/4/17
Description: For me and (maybe) for you too.

Give me peace tonight
So the words may start
Give me peace tonight
To make a fresh start

Let calm descend like the fresh falling snow
So that all the worlds and realms may know
That an artist breathes within these bones
And that she lives and that she grows

Let the outside voices quiver and shake
And stop at the lips of those who hate
While the voice within speaks and flies
Beyond the heights and beyond time

Give me peace tonight
So the words may start
Give me peace tonight
To show the fire in my heart

A Quiet Night

Composed 5/12/16
Description: For Day 8, which is “pleasure.” We were encouraged to use anaphora or epistrophe (repetition at the beginning or end of a verse). I chose to go with the former.

A quiet night is all you need
To reap the fruits of pleasure’s seed
A calmness sets into the breath
As exhales send our stress to death

A quiet night is all you need
To let all discomfort bleed
From the bones and from the mind
As you claim your own free time

A quiet night is all you need
To take that little bit of greed
For yourself and for your loves
To connect within, connect above

A quiet night is all you need
For true pleasure is just being free
So grasp to free time when it comes
And savor it until it’s done
