A Contrast in Perspective

Composed 3/8/16
Description: For today’s Daily Prompt: Contrast.

You see the world in monochrome
We see the world in black and white
Blue and pink
We see the rainbows and what’s gray
How they color coat the things of everyday that
Dictate what things we can touch
Without getting burned
And little changes as time passes
Because the masses and powerful see
The world through rose colored glasses
And that makes you
Blind

Tonight

Composed 8/31/13
Description: Sorry for the brief hiatus. Between moving back to college and attending many fun events, I’ve not had time to sit down and write much lately. However, tonight gave me opportunity and inspiration simultaneously. It’s my second night in my apartment on campus… and all my roommates have disappeared, leaving me quite alone. And, thus, Tonight.

Embracing the warmth
Of a hug and fresh tea
Followed by twirls
And effortless leaps
Floating and gliding
Like a bird on the sea
Sadly tonight
That girl isn’t me

Listening, learning
About what’s rarely seen
Praying and working
To meet others’ needs
Doing it all
With sincerity’s gleam
Sadly tonight
That girl isn’t me

Heart pumps, excitement
A blush in her cheeks
Marveling if
He’s as great as he seems
Talking and laughing
Life’s harms seem to flee
Sadly tonight
That girl isn’t me

Trapped in a house
Strange, barren, stuffy
Pencils and paper
Her sole company
With too much time for
Reminiscing
Indeed, tonight
That girl is me

Deceiving

Composed 7/27/13
Description: Written soon after my last entry. It is only appropriate to post it tonight as well.

It doesn’t feel right
At the end of the night
To leave sad words behind
For I know that my life
Though at times filled with strife
Is more blessed than most my kind

Still I’m afraid I might slip away
Tonight as in my bed I lay
Sad words left as my last
They will read my past thoughts
Thinking me so distraught
They could have helped if only they asked

But such thoughts are untrue
I love life, I love you
My grief is so small in the end
I only write sadly
Because it’s so madly
Unlike the course life tends
