Empathy

Composed 6/7/16
Description: It’s a bitch.

Sometimes I pride on a heart made of ice
But there’s no such thing
Tragedy pierces and
Anger melts it
Sadness seizes and squeezes until tears leak
Out between clenched fingers
Happiness radiates and thaws
Hearts throb but it must freeze again
Because ice crystals keep the scoundrels at bay
But it inevitably melts away
And it always burns

A Love

Composed 4/11/16
Description: Trying desperately to keep up with NaPoWriMo. I actually think I’m doing okay, considering I’m also somehow managing to balance work, final projects and papers, and a social life. Anyway, expect a few things to come your way today, including this piece for Day 9, roughly inspired by feelings from yesterday and scribbled down mere seconds before sleep.

It’s not loneliness
Simply the memory of
What it’s like to dress up and be admired
To look forward to those eyes and
The sweet messages they hold
It is something unique to feel
Whole in someone’s presence
Grasp a hand and feel like you’ve added another body and mind to you
It’s more than mind-reading
It’s knowing
It’s a heart beating and
A comfort feeling
Like home on Christmas morning
Not just love but a part of you
A history
Of banter, laughs, arguments, genuine compliments
It’s a life
A love I’m looking for

Speechless

Composed 5/3/15
Description: n/a

It’s somewhere just beyond the curtain
Whispered in the lyrics of a favorite song
It’s the cool breath on my neck at night
The stars placed boldly in the sky
A message
A thousand tiny clues hidden in your eyes
My fingertips grasp the sensation
An impression humming in memory
But words fail me

Passion

Composed 3/4/15 (polished up today)
Description: Ever think you’re a well-adjusted person who is dealing rather well with life and then something like this pops out?

One of those poems that came from a half-second feeling and ran away…

I love you because you are my weakness
My masochism personified
A knife taunting every nerve in me
A poison I take willingly

With you I feel
It’s pain but it’s passion
You’re sugar that rots
Warm, searing flame
I want to burn away

I will die
But I’ll die screaming
And right now the pain
Is the closest thing I have to love

Sensational

Composed 9/27/13
Description: I have so many ideas, and often I write them down, but they hardly make it to my blog anymore, because school is keeping me so distracted. There is always something to do, something to get ahead on… And when I take a break, I collapse. However, I wanted to take the time to post this poem, which I just wrote today after a walk back to my apartment. Remember how I said that my university’s literary arts magazine’s theme was going to be “growth?” Well, apparently now it’s “creative emergence.” Whatever that means. Here’s my interpretation (and possible entry).

Silky shadows of silhouettes nigh
With violets twisting with rose in the sky
The vastness of the horizon’s hillside
I’m inspired by my own eyes

Silence of darkness suddenly sears
Sweet rumbles of life then soon reappear
Chirping conversations so far and near
I’m inspired by my own ears

Light, brisk breezes drifting in
Goosebumps rising with the appearance of wind
Breathing in coolness and excitement within
I’m inspired by my own skin

Oceans of colors constantly twist
Sounds surround in a continuous mist
Sensations grace my form like a kiss
I’m inspired because I exist
