Local Guardians

Composed 4/11/17
Description: For NaPoWriMo.

Gnarled stumps like forest spirits keep sentry
Over golden waves and clusters of scattered brethren
Casting a distant eye toward their homebound caretakers
They ward off demons as solemn duty
In the distance lights cast their ominous glow upon the clouds
Scaring the stars and marring the sunset
A red smog warning to stay away and rooted at their post
Warding off urban dwellers
With their brutal, haunted howls
Unrelenting even in the brightest summer
Ever they remain

Only natives are welcomed here
Those who have endured the winds and winters
And proven themselves friends
To the birds, to the creatures who make their home
Those who roam as once-forest people
Now humble movers of the earth

The Throne

Composed 4/11/17
Description: While I work on a few more serious pieces, have a bit of random inspiration. Where do you find yourself working on your creative pursuits? For NaPoWriMo.

The only time I have to be alone
Is on this throne
So leave me be
As I write sweet toilet poetry

A Deadly Stance

Composed 4/6/17
Description: Inspired by life and today’s Daily Prompt: Denial. For NaPoWriMo.

A head tilt and eye shift
At mere conversation
When prodded only circles
Spin on halfhearted investigation
Others too shy to elevate
Or deepen
Thoughts that lay buried
Under a lifetime of holding ground
Feet on earth and eyes in fog
Protect for now
But souls ache for when that stance
Will be swept away with the wind
And forced into light
Or dark

Tired

Composed 4/5/17
Description: I’m there. I’m sure you’ve been there. For NaPoWriMo.

Mindless motions are how
I muddle through monotonous days
Once filled with frenzied excitement
Those same enticing tasks
Emit exasperated sighs
Can I survive
A few more days?

Over

Composed 4/1/17
Description: Hey, blog! Remember me? Yes, I have returned from my slacking with the masses for NaPoWriMo. Okay, it’s not really been slacking. It’s more like the last semester of grad school (and, okay, a recent obsession with a certain MMO). But I DO want to keep writing! And the poetry actually came pretty easily once I sat down and thought for a few minutes. So here we go, the thrilling conclusion to my latest string of sappy, romantic poetry.

I’m
Over you
I overestimated
Apparently not apparent
Adoration
I’m
Absolutely confused
But over
Over you

Give Me Your Words

Composed 4/26/16
Description: Often I wish my friends had real blogs, not just social media accounts. Social media can be informative, but what do they really tell you about someone? Social media platforms have very specific structures and formats that must be adhered to. You must have a Facebook timeline, your tweet has to be 140 characters or less. While that often can inspire creativity, I am always ravenously curious about what someone would do if they were given a blank webpage and told to “go for it!” Yes, this probably stems from the curious, extremely nosey part of me – the part that wants to know everyone’s inner life, the part of me that wants to read their journals so to speak… But another part of me just wants me to see what people would do, how they talk to themselves, what they’re like…

For Day 24 of NaPoWriMo.

We’re so used to little blurbs
an update pic or joke
superficial snippets tiny
holes into your day
but I lack what I crave most
depth into your mind the
way you speak your sentences
that creativity tendency to be so
uniquely you
I want to hear your rants opinions
I want to throw you into unknown situations
and let you run free with a keyboard
with so many outlets I have so little insight
into your mind
would you be so kind
share that guilty pleasure the
random synapse strings that cross and flow
and emote
I feel that to really know you I need you to
give me your words
