The Honest Time

As twilight slips ever closer each passing day
I rest in its familiar, intimate embrace
When feet and minds halt their rushing
And eyes relax in darkness as opposed to oscillating light
Ears are soothed by natural lullabies
Anxieties put to bed for the night
At crepuscule time it is time to just be
Yourself, one, with nature and peace
No other being to entertain or impress
Just the honest time of being and rest

A Writer’s Prayer

Composed 1/4/17
Description: For me and (maybe) for you too.

Give me peace tonight
So the words may start
Give me peace tonight
To make a fresh start

Let calm descend like the fresh falling snow
So that all the worlds and realms may know
That an artist breathes within these bones
And that she lives and that she grows

Let the outside voices quiver and shake
And stop at the lips of those who hate
While the voice within speaks and flies
Beyond the heights and beyond time

Give me peace tonight
So the words may start
Give me peace tonight
To show the fire in my heart

A Quiet Night

Composed 5/12/16
Description: For Day 8, which is “pleasure.” We were encouraged to use anaphora or epistrophe (repetition at the beginning or end of a verse). I chose to go with the former.

A quiet night is all you need
To reap the fruits of pleasure’s seed
A calmness sets into the breath
As exhales send our stress to death

A quiet night is all you need
To let all discomfort bleed
From the bones and from the mind
As you claim your own free time

A quiet night is all you need
To take that little bit of greed
For yourself and for your loves
To connect within, connect above

A quiet night is all you need
For true pleasure is just being free
So grasp to free time when it comes
And savor it until it’s done

Magic in the Night

Composed 12/17/15
Description: For today’s Daily Prompt, which asked us when we do our best work.

When the moon hovers near
And the silence grows thick
When the dust is settled and the clock tick
Tick ticks you hear
Your own heart beating
Peace descends on the mind
Stretching out before you an endless time
Of ghosts and fairies, sweet and fleeting
It is the time of magic and honest thoughts
You are one with yourself and the earth
The heavens soothe, and stories are birthed
In the night, such beauty is wrought

The Song

Composed 5/27/15
Description: For now at least it is a beautiful day, and I am sitting out on my deck enjoying the sun and the ceaseless sound of wind rushing through the trees… resulting in this poem. Fun fact: this is my first time posting to my blog from my phone!

The wind roars
It sings to me
The most beautiful of songs
Uplifting melodies of hope
Drowning out all thought
I can only marvel
At its whispers, its crescendos
It sings of running, adventures, sunlight
It pushes me to dreams unknown
I’m a child of the wind
I long to hear its voice
So when it calls I escape
To a quiet place
And listen

Nighttime Prayer

Composed 4/13/15
Description: For Day 13 of NaPoWriMo. What I write in a half-conscious state.

just let me drift away
slowly to another day
let my soul sleep heavy
my mind and body
they’re both ready
to fade away
succumb to fate
a blissful gift
of a quiet trip
to blacked out dreams
under faint moonbeams
until my eyes open easily
to the sun

The Calm Before

Composed 4/12/15
Description: For Day 12 of NaPoWriMo. Today’s poem is particularly random, largely spun from a phrase that popped into my head when I sat down to write. That happens from time to time.

dreary-eyed, say goodbye
set the sun, leave songs unsung
you see, uneasy as this be
in this moment we have peace
one more day of soft charade
minds and bodies drift away
it’s all I ask, a final prayer
tomorrow, maybe, we’ll wake and dare

Stars

Composed 4/11/15
Description: For Day 10 of NaPoWriMo. Sorry I didn’t get around to writing/post one yesterday. I had a rehearsal dinner… and today I was in a wedding. So, yes, been a bit busy! But that means you get two today!

This one was actually inspired by yesterday night, though it fits with the romantic aura of the wedding I went to today.

Darling take my hand
And lead me to the open fields
Urge me, lay me on the dew
Tilt my head up to the stars
Endless patterns
So clear tonight
Just be with me
Make me take the time
To look up at the stars tonight

The Cemetery

Composed 3/10/15
Description: Inspired by a place I drove by that day.

Step with me through the cemetery
Where the snow still falls in spring
Hear the hissing, howling wind
As ancient voices sing
Step up the slippery hillside
Weave though the homes of deceased
Sweep your fingers over the stones
You might just bring them peace
