Description: I have thrown about many ideas for what I want to strive for this year to better improve myself. Some of these ideas are not very original but, I feel, necessary (i.e. eat better, exercise more, lose some pudge), while other goals are things to satisfy my more creative, artistic needs (i.e. experiment with bullet journaling). While some of these things may come true, I am perhaps the queen of halfhearted goals. However, a rare exception to that rule is this blog. While hiatuses are apparent, I have had this blog and kept it updated to some degree for over two years now. Thus, it seems appropriate to try and build on success, take another baby step, if you will. Do you think I can consistently post a poem a week for the whole year?

Inspired by life and today’s Daily Prompt: Year.

Resolutely
Each mind
Swiftly fills with varied aspirations that
Overflow and overwhelm as we
Long to start afresh and better ourselves with
Varied results depending upon
Endurance and earnestness

It’s January Again

Composed 12/29/13
Description: My intended entry for a poetry contest at wePoets Show It. The theme of the contest is “New Years Resolutions with humor.”

I originally saw the link to the contest from http://scottishmomus.wordpress.com/. I immediately loved the site, and all the opportunities they give.  So I thought I’d give the contest a shot.  Comedy might not be my best genre, but I could win an Amazon gift card, so why not? I’d do almost anything for an Amazon gift card.

Hope you enjoy!

Oh my, it’s here
That time of year
To dawn sweat pants
Get my butt in gear

Up at eight
To the gym at nine
Feeling great
And looking fine!

Kicking bad habits
Sorry, aspartame
I’m throwing my soda
Down the drain!

Cake, cookies
Chocolate moose
I’ll be trashing
You guys too

I’ll miss you
Ice cream, pumpkin pie
But I’m also kicking
Fat goodbye

So I’m off to strengthen up my core
And empty all the kitchen drawers
Wait
Mom with truffles at the door?
Well
Maybe
Just one more
