Variety

Composed 9/15/17
Description: A little tidbit of advice, inspired by life and today’s Daily Prompt: Flavorful.

Tastebuds changed
Were planted
After careful cultivation
Grown over years
Budded and
Bloomed
Tended to
Never harvested
Rarely pruned
Run amok
Vines sprouting, crawling, overtaking
Setting more to root
More seeds, more buds, more blooms
Suddenly no room for anything else

And then the rot comes in

Disease, nausea, death
Then there’s nothing left
No moving on
Just spending the rest of days
Searching for a shadow, an exact replica

Only disappointment waits if
This searching becomes fate
And when it’s found
The taste courses through and triggers
Shivering memories of sickness
And it only heaves and never leaves
If one only consumes the same that instigated illness
So be through with it
There are more flavors out in the world
That’s why they call variety
The spice of life

Change

Composed 4/16/16
Description: For Day 16 of NaPoWriMo. A kyrielle (mostly).

We look at change with timid eyes
A mountain rising in the sky
However what we fail to see
Is change is made of tiny things

Brand new routines in small amounts
Can change your life by leaps and bounds
A small new habit in a week
Shows change is made of tiny things

A splash of water on your face
A freshly clean and tidy space
Now shower voices loudly sing
This change is made of tiny things

Don’t let the mountain pass on by
The current path is smooth you find
Even small steps can feel so sweet
For change is made of tiny things

How to Stay Safe

Composed 8/4/13
Description: I find myself living this way too often.

Hide within the clouds you wear
Slip into the cracks of air
Don’t observe, just miss the stares
As you stroll the streets of life

Drown within the mist’s routine
Blur the things you may have seen
Obsess inside the fantasy
To miss life’s throwing knives

Wade among the dirt and muck
Lie with each determined strut
Live inside yourself and rut
A path in dusty earth

Do not touch the things that break
Or puncture clouds that keep you safe
Avoid the things that could awake
The question of your worth
