City Block

Composed 9/29/16
Description: It’s been awhile, but the words still jump out at me, especially now that autumn calls!

When cigarette and coffee smoke
Are dancing in the air
When schools of people swarm around
Like you’re not even there
When police patrols and flashing lights
Set hearts a-pounding, scared
When hot asphalt, manicured grass
The cool breeze makes aware
It’s then you pull your jacket tight
Walk like a queen and dare

It’s like something could happen
And even if it never does
You still have now begun the dream
And you still feel it
There
On your skin

Do you listen?

Composed 4/25/16
Description: For Day 23 of NaPoWriMo and for today’s Daily Prompt: Whisper.

Do you listen to the whispers of the world?
They speak to you
when the wind whistles and goosebumps
prickle up and down your skin
when the dark closes in
when you feel the sin of sweet on your lips and
the churning inside that settles like sand
Do you listen?
The world is telling you
that spirits ride just behind you that
evil lurks in your corner
and God hovers in certain places when
the view seems sharper and
you smile just because
Do you listen?
It’s not being subtle
we forget we were born psychic
with good and evil within
they tell us to ignore sensation bare perception
but the whispers of the world are what tell us the truth
So listen
let it guide you

Someone’s Amortentia

Composed 3/9/16
Description: If this appeals to you, you might be in love with me. Just saying.

For Blogging the Senses.

Imagine
Red, silk sheets, exposed under thick comforters
Dented in the presence of a basking, drowsy cat
A slightly husky, very warm, animal, living smell

Imagine
Pulling out that old t-shirt
Soft, almost see-through, traveling between each winding finger
As you bring it up, inhale, lavender
Snuggle to be precise

Imagine
A hot, dry day
That t-shirt, cut-off jean shorts
Wet hair, silky calves, an aura
Of soft, sweet cherry blossoms

Imagine
A familiar home filled
With old wood, antique carpet
Knick-knacks, slightly dusty and
Bread, cookies, still baking

Don’t imagine
Breathe, smell it, sense it
It’s real, it’s here, it’s
Me

Made of Ice

Composed 1/5/16
Description: An odd wish, I suppose.

I wish I was a girl of ice
So I could fearlessly
Walk out in the ruthless cold
And stroll among the flurries

I see my empty eyes
Reflective like the shallow lakes
As the wind grasps my dress and blows
A distant, lonely, lovely sound

As the world glitters and rests
I want to witness it
The beauty of a frozen night
Rawly, a girl made of ice

Just Listening

Composed 4/25/14
Description: n/a

I live through the ears
My eyes       dart
I can pretend
I can plead
If I don’t see their faces
But my heart l o n g s
For true connection
Heat, anger, love, affection
Desires of risk
And my eyes are rapid
Sensors of emotion
My heart a muscle of pure empathy
It hurts to see
Do I live with the pain?
Or die empty?
An outsider
Just
Listening

Petting the Cat

Composed 4/17/14
Description: (Day 17 of NaPoWriMo) Did not have a lot of inspiration today, so I clung to the suggested prompt, which was to write about something using 3 of the 5 senses. While thinking about what to describe, I had a visitor, which inspired this poem.

Soft hills and valleys
Of warm feather grass
Shifting and rolling as explored
Erupt into mini earthquakes
Trembling under fingertips
And whispered thunder
Rumbles from within
As glassy green orbs
Melt away in pleasure

Adventures (in Fashion)

Composed 2/20/14
Description: Inspired by today’s Daily Prompt: New Sensation, which asked us to describe our favorite fashions from days of yore or current trends we think are stylin’. This prompt hit me at a good time, as my mother took me shopping yesterday, and I’m still riding the high of purchasing a new pair of boots and skinny jeans. To increase my excitement, the weather has (temporarily) taken a turn for the better, meaning today I’ve been able to wear an amazing jacket I bought several weeks ago.

Anyone who has consistently read my blog knows I have a small obsession with boots, which means I have written on my favorite fashion accessory before, both for everyday wear and as an important factor in steampunk.  However, today was just such a perfect example of the amazing sensation dressing this way gives me that I had to write about it again.

Today the snow melts, spewing rapids on pavement
As gray clouds shadow the cool wind’s bereavement
The dark grass ripples in the cold and the mist
Like a kingdom’s great marsh fading into abyss

My lips pull together
A victorious smirk
As I dawn my protection
And step out to lurk

There’s something about leather and twine knee high laces
That takes me off to my favorite places
Tromping through forests with bow on my back
To the castle with sword bracing for attack

With blood red jacket of shining cattle skin
And boots to my thigh with tight jeans fit in
I’m a story tale hero with a warrior’s heart
Fighting for my loved ones and my peoples’ fresh start

I journey through days where potential runs free
To travel, to meet, to love, fight and seize
I chase villains, I battle, meet charming young men
I blow off, I banter, I fall to my whims

And this is the feeling
On those days when I put
Leather sleeve on shoulder
And tall boot on foot
